‘Niobium Science & Technology’ – for new developments in the world of Niobium
- In working extensively with diverse Niobium applications over the last 20+ years, I have learned that this metal offers significant benefits as a material of construction for a wide array of technologies.
- Niobium has not always been readily available in the shapes and sizes needed for projects. This has limited its use in many applications where it would otherwise be an ideal material of construction.
- Niobium, and alloys containing Niobium, offer high performance and low life-cycle cost for applications where its superior corrosion resistance, electrochemical properties and/or superconducting are needed.
Steven Sparkowich, PE is a Licensed Professional Metallurgical Engineer with a Bachelor of Science in Metallurgical Engineering from the Colorado School of Mines and a Graduate Certificate in Welding Engineering from the Ohio State University.
Steven is considered a leading global expert on topics related to niobium and niobium alloys, and has more than 25 years of experience working with the reactive metals titanium, zirconium, and hafnium as well as with the refractory metals niobium, tantalum, molybdenum, tungsten and rhenium.
Steven is a specialist in the technical aspects of corrosion, failure analysis, welding, cladding, heat treatment, investment casting, electrochemistry, anodization, CVD, PVD, cold spray, additive manufacturing, forging and mill processing.
Steven in highly knowledgeable about applications and requirements for specialty metals in the following industries: chemical processing, oil & gas, biofuels, green hydrogen, batteries, mining, hydrometallurgy, nuclear, aerospace, space, defense, microelectronics, biomedical, dental, jewelry, coinage, and art.
